3 VIRGINIA-BOUND SHIPS WINDOW
(inside St. Sepulchre Church)
Holborn Viaduct, EC1

Inside St. Sepulchre Church, the same place that the famous Captain John Smith is buried, there is a stained glass window that celebrates the three ships that carried the first English settlers (including Captain Smith) to Virginia, where they established a settlement they called Jamestown, in honor of the then-current king, James I.

3 Ships Window

These three ships, the Susan Constant, the Discovery, and the Godspeed, set sail from Blackwall, in the East End of present-day London, in December 1606. They arrived at Virginia in the spring of 1607. Above them, in the window, are three figures. Only the central figure, Captain John Smith, had anything to do with settlement of Virginia.
