North Side WPA Pergola
This pergola (defined in Webster's Dictionary as "a structure usually consisting of parallel collonades supporting an open roof or girders and cross rafters") was constructed in 1940 by the WPA (Works Projects Administration), which was one of Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" agencies. Immediately below and adjacent to the pergola lies the "grassy knoll," as it was called in the Warren Commission and other reports dealing with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
