1870s

1872

n.d. The Houston & Texas Central Railroad begins building a passenger and freight depot at Richardson.

1873

April 14: A letter reporting on the new town of Richardson is printed in the Dallas Herald.

April 29: The Dallas Daily Herald reports that a "baptismal ceremony" for the new town of Richardson is soon to be held.

May 10: A Sunday School and Temperance Picnic is held at the Montvale School at Richardson. Parson Jacob Routh officiates.

June 23: William J. Wheeler and Bernard Reilly sell 101 acres of land for a townsite that overlaps the H&TC tracks, but due to deed recording and map error, the railroad ends up with 121 acres.

Nov. 14: The Dallas Daily Herald reports that the population of Richardson increased when four babies were born recently.

Dec. 6: The Dallas Weekly Herald reports that the railroad switch at Richardson has recently been tampered with twice.

1874

June 8: First U.S. Post Office in Richardson opens with Charles C. Blandford as postmaster..

July 31: A picnic is held at the Patrons Institute in Richardson. Public invited.

1876

Fall: Huge swarms of grasshoppers plague area farmers.
