1930s

1931

May 16: Filming for "The Kid from Mexico," Texas's first talking picture begins five miles south of Richardson.

Aug. 14: Southern Pacific depot catches fire but fire department saves most of the building.

Nov. 26: Robbers break into Citizen's State Bank and steal $115 worth of pennies after overpowering night watchman.

1933

Aug. 12: Richardson Trades Day. Sixteen-year-old Peggy Moore makes a balloon ascension and parachute jump.

1934

Tue., May 29: The Richardson Chamber of Commerce is organized (2nd time).

1938

Dec. 9: The Richardson Echo reports that the old IOOF Building has been remodeled and the date 1896 replaced with 1924.

1939

n.d.: New Richardson Post Office opens.

March 24: The Ritz Theatre, 105 Main Street, opens, showing "Burn 'em Up O'Connor."
