1954

n.d.: Hwy. 75/Central Expressway completed to Richardson.

Spring: Development of the Height Addition begins.

Sept. 14: The Richardson Echo reports Bailey Variety Building completed..

1955

July 2: Citizen's State Bank moves across the street to 200 West Main Street.

Dec. 5: The Santa Fe "Texas Chief" rolls through Richardson for the first time.

1956

n.d.: Texas Instruments builds a sprawling campus on the edge of Richardson.

June 23: Voters approve a home rule charter for the City of Richardson.

Sept. 10: U.S. Representative Bruce Alger attends dedication ceremony for new Richardson Post Office.

1957

n.d.: The Young Building, at 110 N. McKinney Street in old downtown Richardson is built.

n.d.: Collins Radio begins construction of a 200-acre campus in Richardson.

1958

May 28: First issue of The Richardson Daily News is published.

Sept. 12: Texas Instruments engineer Jack Kilby invents the microchip.
