1970s

1970

Sun., March 1: 300 people attend a meeting in the auditorium of the Red Brick School Building, to form a Richardson Historical Society.

Sun., April 12: The Richardson Historical Society is formally organized.

1971

n.d.: The Arapaho Drive-In movie theater at 600 West Arapaho Road closes down.

Sun., October 10: The Richardson Historical Society hoses a bus tour of local historic sites for 63 people..

1972

n.d.: New Sears store opens on southeast corner of Belt Line and Plano Road.

April 29: Richland College of the DCCCD enrolls its first two students (for the fall semester).

Sept. 5: Richland College opens for classes for the first time.

1973

March 30: The Richardson Choral Club presents a musical history of Richardson called "Centennial," at the Richland College performance hall.

June 8: Dairy Queen at 1000 Belt Line Road is robbed.

June 10: Centennial Edition of Richardson Daily News is published.

June 23: Richardson Centennial parade is held.

1975

n.d.: University Village shopping center opens on northeast corner of Plano Road and Belt Line.

1977

n.d.: Richardson Square Mall opens.

1978

n.d.: Huffhines Park Recreation Center opens.

September: Ground is broken for new Civic Center complex next to public library.

1979

Jan. 23: New Richardson Post Office opens at 433 Belle Grove Drive.
