2000s



2001

January: Montgomery Wards' department store closes at Richardson Square Mall.

May: Target acquires Montgomery Wards' property.

2002

n.d.: Five Richardson residents are arrested in connection with the Holy Land Foundation office in Richardson, reportedly with ties to terrorism.

July 1: Grand Opening of Spring Valley Road, Arapaho Center, and Galatyn Park DART light rail stations.

October: After Montgomery Wards' store is demolished, a new Super Target store opens on the site.

2004

July 7: Five individuals connected to the Holy Land Foundation office in Richardson are convicted of crimes related to the so-called "War on Terror."

Fall: Dillard's' and Barnes and Noble vacate Richardson Square Mall premises.

Nov. 4: After robbing a bank on Greenville Avenue, three bandits armed with assault weapons lead Richardson Police on a high-speed chase, but get away (they are later caught)..

2006

n.d.: Old Huffhines Park Recreation Center demolished; baseball complex renovated..

2007

June: Demolition of Richardson Square Mall (except Sears) begins.

2009

n.d.: New Huffhines Park Recreation Center opens on Plano Road.
