Flowing into Sunset Bay is Dixon Branch Creek, a sheltered inlet favored by ducks, geese, pelicans, swans, and other waterfowl. Not surprisingly, this is also a favorite spot for children and adults who delight in tossing scraps of stale bread to the hungry birds. Wildlife photographers also like it. The creek is named for a pioneer Dallas County family that once lived in the vicinty.
In 1937, a dredge boat named the "Joe E. Lawther" suddenly sank here and was later refloated, repaired and continued its job.
