WHEREAS, White Rock Lake's well-being not only affects the vitality and value of its immediate residential and commercial neighbors, but also has significant impact city-wide and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake offers the souls of young and old alike the emotional refreshment of curving shorelines, green spaces, cool thickets, gentle breezes, bridal [sic] paths, diamond reflections of sun on water, pastel dawns and blazing sunsets, all against the striking silhouette of our downtown skyline; and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake affords a wide variety of sporting and recreational opportunities to city residents and visitors alike, including sailors, cyclists, contemplators, runners, rollerbladers, dock-sitters, strollers, smoochers, picnickers, birders, fisherfolk, and all who love the out-of-doors; and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake is an environmental resource, providing valuable habitat, wetland, and refuge for flora, fauna, and fowl; and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake is beloved as a unique and historical asset, with almost a century of service; and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake lays claim to the lore of the Lady of the Lake; and
WHEREAS, White Rock Lake deserves a rich and secure future, safeguarded by our attention, our actions, and our investments.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, RONALD KIRK, Mayor of the City of Dallas, and on behalf of the Dallas City Council, do hereby proclaim December 3, 1995 as
"FOR THE LOVE OF WHITE ROCK LAKE!" DAY
