Dallas Remembers: The 60th Anniversary
November 22, 2023
All the photos on this page were taken on Wednesday, November 22, 2023--the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (a cool, but bright, sunny day)--at Dallas' Dealey Plaza, where there was no official ceremony conducted by the City of Dallas, but simply a gathering of hundreds, perhaps thousands of people from Dallas and around the world, who came to that spot either to learn about the assassination, to publicly espouse one of the many conspiracy theories that are widely-believed despite the conclusion of the Warren Commission that Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin, acted alone, or simply to recall and reflect on a painful national trauma that those of us who were alive on that day will never forget.
What's truly remarkable is that apart from the addition of some memorial and markers, the reconstruction of the county courthouse clock and bell tower, and the removal of the Hertz Rent-a-Car sign from atop the old Texas School Book Depository Building (which now houses the Sixth Floor Museum), Dealey Plaza has changed very little in sixty years, which is why the actual location has been used in several movies that include a recreation of the assassination.
